If you know the weight of the food you are trying to defrost, enter the weight of the food using the numeric keys in pounds and tenths of a pound.

If you are not certain of the weight of the food, enter your best guess. Once you press the Start button, the microwave will start working, and the timer will count down. If you hear two beeps halfway through, that's a prompt to turn the food, flip it over or shield it with small strips of foil to avoid overcooking.

Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove says it is OK to carefully place small amounts of aluminum foil in the microwave oven. If liquid exudes from a piece of meat or another item that you are defrosting, remove it. The liquid will heat up during the defrosting process, and if the food remains in the hot liquid, it could start to cook it. Your Panasonic inverter microwave allows you to select the power and cook time.

There are 10 power levels from which to choose. The Panasonic inverter microwave supports up to three cooking stages. When operating, two beeps will sound between each cooking stage, and five beeps will sound at the end of the entire sequence.

When selecting the P10 power level, the maximum programmable time is 30 minutes. For other power levels, the microwave lets you select a maximum time of 99 minutes and 99 seconds. Press the Power Level button until the desired power level number appears in the window.

Set the cooking time using the number pad. For example, enter 1, 3 and 0 for 1 minute and 30 seconds. If you need to cook your food in stages, repeat these steps for each stage of cooking before pressing the Start button.

When you press the Start button, cooking will commence, and the time in the display window will count down. For reheating, you will likely use the highest power level, P10, for liquids. The P7 power level is considered medium-high and is suitable for most food. The P6 power level is considered medium and is recommended for dense food, while power level 3 is considered medium-low.

Keep in mind as you are reheating, cooking or defrosting, particularly if you have used an older model, that the new Panasonic inverter microwave oven requires less time to cook than older units.
