But I found that my User folder is gone on the desktop in the newly updated Windows I could not find the User Folder on the desktop nor the files and folders in it. So I want to how to get disappeared or not showing up User folder back on Windows 10 desktop, including the lost files and folders inside it? Losing User folder and the files included may occur now and then in Windows 10 due to a false operation or system errors.

And how to perform a user folder recovery and get all lost folder and files back becomes a new question. DAT file affects the user preference settings and may corrupt the user's profile.

Performing a system restore may resolve this issue. To do so, refer to Restore from a system restore point section of this article. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. I just want to understand the purpose of them.

If I don't use them or need them, I would rather delete them. Like I said, I thought the userdata folder was exclusively for game folder and would like it that way. I didn't know if it's something I can opt out of. For example, I don't participate with the Steam cloud and didn't know if these folders have anything to do with that. Many Steam games put their save files in a subdirectory off that UserData folder, many others put them in other random locations, such as "My Documents", "ProgramData", "AppData", and sometimes even in the Windows registry.

Ultimately, the game developer decides where it goes, and despite being something of an inconvenience for the end user, that's just how it is. I wish all the save data was stored in one place but, I understand now that the developers make this call.

Forcen View Profile View Posts. It stores config files for controllers and that stuff for me. You could just open the files with notepad and see what they hold, that's what I did. Do they take up much space?
